Getting back to London from Finland late last night, I had ample time between delays and connections to think about the next couple of months (um years). Do you find this? It’s like your real life switches off while you’re traveling, you belong nowhere and your mind starts to work differently and you’re outside your everyday life. I planned my entire life on a napkin on a flight to Paris once. Or is this just silly me?
I love food, I want to be a chef
Just to say, to save yourself reading this entire post, the main bones of it are to do with me explaining what I’ll be up to for the next few weeks. The main question being….How am I going to get myself ready for the beach??? Yikes!
Meeting beautiful, healthy, glowing girls in the course of my work….fashion weeks, campaigns, models and finally that unique Scandinavian healthy glow found everywhere in Finland over the weekend, it isn’t easy. I question myself, my routine, and ask…. when I look in the mirror….Where’s my healthy glow? How can I get it? You know the one I’m talking about.
I see it in a lot of models who take their careers seriously and eat the right food and use many of the great beauty treatments and products to enhance their beauty. Finland aside, nowhere was this healthy glow more obvious than when I met Eliza Cummings. I was drawn to her because she seemed extraordinarily happy. Turns out her number one passion is food and cooking and within second of meeting her she told me ‘I love food.’ ‘I want to be a chef.’
In fashion, we meet and photograph some of the most beautiful models in the world and it’s refreshing to know that one of the industry’s most successful enjoys and celebrates the goodness of food. Her glowing face has peeped out from so many Vogue covers as well as campaigns (too many to mention but her favourite incidentally was Calvin Klein) that it seemed as good a place as any to start.
So her top ‘glow’ tip was simple. Drink loads of water. For the entire Vivienne Westwood show she swigged from her Westwood ‘Stop Climate Change’ bottle which we were all given backstage. So I have the bottle now at home all I have to do it remember to fill it and drink it daily. (I know it’s a drag but think of the benefits).
As well as swigging H2O daily I’m going to try and get my skin, body and hair into tip top shape. Maybe we could do it together (mutual support). You let me know what you’re doing to get your own Goddess glow and I’ll let you know how I’m struggling. We each have a little list of people that helps us get our glow on…. a waxer, a nail expert, a hair colourist/stylist. I’m keen to find yours. We can share with each other here and help each other out. On Thursday I’ll be getting my hair coloured by a lady who changes models’ hair colour backstage before shows and then changes it back again before they move onto the next one. She has tons of secrets. Today already I’ve had some porridge and a glass of water. It’s meant to be a cellulite killer. (It’s a start).

I’m a big foodie too!I’m not really good to cook, but I’m good to eat!! For me it’s important to maintain a healthy life-style as opposed to diet if you get me? I don’t really believe in diets, or maybe they just don’t work for me. As I said I’m not really good to cook but I’m into ingredients. Like I love fish, I love sundried tomatoes, I love avocado, things like that and then I’ll just think in my head of a way that I can combine all of these and still be aware of the health factor of all of them. I don’t think food is something that people should be afraid of but I think people should become educated in good food and ingredients. I’m writing this comment as if I’m an expert, I’m really not this is just what I believe. Instead of becoming dependent on processed foods try out different kinds of fresh produce and see what works for you and what you like as opposed to following a get slim recepie that you may not like but only stick with it in order to get a desired waitline. Basically I try to adopt more of a healthy lifestyle as opposed to “going on a diet”, eating good food that I love and that loves me back and maintaining a good exercise routine. (personally I love walking, swimming and pilates.) Again I am definitely not an expert just sharing my own personal ethos. Hope you had a fabulous time in Finland! xx

I always find it difficult to find salons open in the evenings G as it’s the only time I have to have beauty treatments. I eventually found Lavender Hill Slam Beauty. Have you heard of it?
They have two salons as far as I’m aware in London. One at 119 Lavender Hill and the other at 12 Lavender Hill. I’ve had the best Swedish massage here for £30. It lasted an hour.
They also do cheap facials (£25) and shape eye brows for £5. Thought you might like to check it out. Here’s the website http://www.siambeauty.co.uk and number 7585 1222
Love your blog posts. I think you’re amazing. xxx

Oh and forgot to add to my points above
Lavender Beauty above is open until 11 PM. Can you believe it G? 11 PM. More salons should think about doing this.

About the airport time, I do that. I love airports. Your own life hangs suspended until you return. Your mind becomes empty and open to new ways of thinking. Love it.
